On April 22, 2021, the kick-off seminar of the project KS11173, Clean Green City by Smart Waste Management, Cool4City was held. The activity was organised by the Lead partner of the project – St. Petersburg State Unitary Enterprise “St. Petersburg Information and Analytical Centre” within the framework of the Transnational awareness raising event “Baltic Circular Economy Forum”, dedicated to the current topics of sustainable urban development and the introduction of “green” technologies in the business environment.
Anna Petrova, Head of the Department of Environmental Education and External Relations, made a welcoming speech from the Committee for Nature Use, Environmental Protection and Ecological Safety. Anna noted that the project supports the Concept of Continuous Environmental Education in St. Petersburg, contributes to the development of a comfortable, cozy, clean and green living environment and ensures long-term cooperation between Finland and Russia.
Then, Andrey Kashin, Head of the Infrastructure Technologies and Development of Integration Systems Department, made a welcoming speech from the Committee on IT and Communications. Andrey emphasized that the Committee on IT and Communiztions, for its part, is ready to support the project at all stages of implementation and believes that the implementation of measures will make a significant contribution to the improvement of the border area and the introduction of new technologies in this area, and will also contribute to the development of cross-border cooperation and the establishment of new international relations.
Maria Kuzko, project manager on the part of St. Petersburg State Unitary Enterprise “St. Petersburg Information and Analytical Centre”, presented the main goals, objectives and planned results of the project. Maria said that the Cool4City project is based on the idea of promoting the concept of separate collection and recycling of waste, studying and describing the current legislation of the solid waste management system in Russia and Finland, development of recommendations in this area as well as the development of a circular economy.
Project partners are 4 significant environmental Finnish and 2 Russian organisation. Each partner presented the activities of their organisations and their role in the implementation of the project, as well as discussed the main stages of work.
The event ended with a working meeting of partners, during which the schedule of events, the composition of the Steering Group and other current issues were discussed.
The Cool4City project is being implemented within the framework of the Russia – South-East Finland Cross-Border Cooperation Program for the period 2014-2020 with the support of the Committee for Nature Use, Environmental Protection and Ecological Safety, the Committee on IT and Communications, the Helsinki City Administration, the Regional Council of the Helsinki Region -Uusimaa, Mikkeli City Administration.
